Exercise is one of the best things that anyone can do in order to help strengthen their back and prevent future injury.

They suggested that everyone should keep a straight back and spine without bending to look down for extended periods of time. Devices should also be kept just below eye level in order to provide the best posture. Being aware of good posture will also help with back problems. A study done on military personnel with back problems revealed that many of them with these problems were not aware that they had poor posture (Lane). Those who fix their posture will help prevent future injuries.

Studies have suggested that when we stretch, we decrease the likelihood of muscle and ligament strain (McHugh). Mayoclinic also suggests one of the best ways to prevent muscle strain in any part of the body is to stretch frequently (Prevention). Research has also shown that stretching before activities as part of a warm up can help prevent back injuries.

Chiropractors use several different techniques to treat back pain. One common way is massaging the pained area which has shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic back pain. One study found that the use of relaxation and structural massage relieved pain for up to 6 months (Cherkin). Another type of chiropractic care is called Spinal Mobilization. Which is to “restore or to enhance joint function” (Spine-health). This is technique is mostly used for lower back pains and mobilizes a joint in order to increase range of motion and decrease pain. In addition, trigger point therapy also relieves pain. There are instances where a source of pain is causing pain in other parts of the body and because of this, the chiropractor will typically use cycles of isolated pressure and release to help alleviate pain in different parts of the body.

There are many things that people can do on a daily basis to increase or decrease their likelihood of back pain. Improper lifting, obesity, and poor posture can all cause back problems; however, strengthening the core, practicing good posture, stretching, and visiting chiropractors can all help prevent future back pain and injuries.
